The Second World War

The Second World War was a huge conflict which began in 1939. The Nazi Germany invaded Poland the 1st September, 1939. Britain and France tried declared war on Germany, two days later trying to save Poland as Hitler refused to stop his invasion, but they didn’t succeed. In 1940 he attacked most of Western Europe: Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Holland, France and Norway. In 1941 they attacked Yugoslavia and Greece and invaded Russia. In the same year Japan decided to attack the United States. In 1942 Japan invaded Southeast Asia and the Pacific. In 1943 Italy surrendered to Africa and Germany took over. In 1944 France was liberated. Japan surrendered in 1945 after the United States dropped two atoms bombs in Japan. All these attacks and invasions killed over 40 million people. The war ended the 8th of May 1945, when the allies[1] accepted the surrender of Germany, about a week after Hitler committed suicide. 


The main leaders in the Second World War were: Neville Chamberlain, Prime minister of Great Britain in September 1939; Winston Churchill, Prime minister of Great Britain (1940-1945); Joseph Stalin, communist dictator of Russia; Franklin Delano Roosevelt, President of the United States (1933-1945)  Harry Truman, President of the united states; Charles de Gaulle, French general who led the French against Germany; William King, Prime minister of Canada; Robert Menzies, Prime minister of Australia; Michael Savage, Prime minister of New Zealand; Adolf Hitler, dictator of Germany (1933-1939); Hideki Tojo, Prime minister of Japan (1941-1944); Emperor Hirohito, Emperor of Japan and Benito Mussolini, prime minister of Italy (1922-1943).
