The victory of the allies (1943-1945)

On the 6th June in 1944 (D-Day), allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy. This signaled the bigging of the Second World War. It was the first stage in the liberation of western Europe and a major step  towards the defeat of Nazi Germany. This was known as the D-Day Landing.

Fall of Berlin which was the 2nd of May 1945, was the day that the battle between the Soviet Veterans and Berlin ended. As the name says itself, Berlin lost.

On the 8th of August is 1945, the USA dropped two atom bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which they had secretly been developing during the war. These bombs made Japan surrender in the same year. They killed over 78,500 people.
The reason for which the USA done this was because they wanted to bring the war to a rapid end and prevent the loss of any more troops.

The Last Major German Offensive

The last Major German Offensive which went from the 16th of December 1944 till the 25th of January 1945, was also known as Ardennes Offensive at the Battle of Bulge. The Battle's name "Bulge" was given by the British, because on the map there is a bulge where the German forces broke the line.
The aim of this was to divide the allied troops in two to try and capture Antwerp and destroy the remaining axis, but luckily for the allies, the Germans plan didn't turn out, as the allies had a lot going for them. They had around 840,000 men on land fighting, good weather which allowed the air force to take part of the battle as well.  There were around 186,369 injuries in the Battle of Bulge.

The Second World War

The Second World War was a huge conflict which began in 1939. The Nazi Germany invaded Poland the 1st September, 1939. Britain and France tried declared war on Germany, two days later trying to save Poland as Hitler refused to stop his invasion, but they didn’t succeed. In 1940 he attacked most of Western Europe: Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Holland, France and Norway. In 1941 they attacked Yugoslavia and Greece and invaded Russia. In the same year Japan decided to attack the United States. In 1942 Japan invaded Southeast Asia and the Pacific. In 1943 Italy surrendered to Africa and Germany took over. In 1944 France was liberated. Japan surrendered in 1945 after the United States dropped two atoms bombs in Japan. All these attacks and invasions killed over 40 million people. The war ended the 8th of May 1945, when the allies[1] accepted the surrender of Germany, about a week after Hitler committed suicide.

The main leaders in the Second World War were: Neville Chamberlain, Prime minister of Great Britain in September 1939; Winston Churchill, Prime minister of Great Britain (1940-1945); Joseph Stalin, communist dictator of Russia; Franklin Delano Roosevelt, President of the United States (1933-1945)  Harry Truman, President of the united states; Charles de Gaulle, French general who led the French against Germany; William King, Prime minister of Canada; Robert Menzies, Prime minister of Australia; Michael Savage, Prime minister of New Zealand; Adolf Hitler, dictator of Germany (1933-1939); Hideki Tojo, Prime minister of Japan (1941-1944); Emperor Hirohito, Emperor of Japan and Benito Mussolini, prime minister of Italy (1922-1943).

[1] Allies:  Australia,Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Greece, India, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa ,United Kingdom, United States, USSRY, Yugoslavia.

The origin of the conflict and precedents; Italian invasion of Ethiopia, the spanish civil war and the munich agreement.

The origin of the conflict and precedents: The Second World War began because Hitler had broken the Munich Agreement, and attacked Poland. Neville Chamberlain realized that Hitler couldn’t be trusted, so his appeasement policy ended, making him having to give up Sudetenland and was banned from having armed forces.

The Italian invasion of Ethiopia began the 3rd of October 1935 and ended in 1936. It was a very brief colonial war which was remembered as the Italo-Abyssinian war.
Mussolini had his eye set on neighbouring Ethiopia, because he wanted it as an Italian colony. Although the Italian military managed to occupy Ethiopia successfully. He tried to convince the Abyssinians that he only wanted it as a sunshine retreat, but the Abyssinians were not prepared to surrender so they fort for their country.
The Italian forces used for the first time mustard gas and phosgene as illegal weapons.

The Spanish civil war was a military revolt against the Republican government of Spain, which raged in Spain from 1936 to 1939. It was an alliance led by General Franco. Him and his army overthrew the existing government and took over Spain. He had two kinds of supporters, the ones who were fighting for the government, who were the: socialists, communists and religionists (left wing). On the other hand he had: Falangists, conservatives, monarchists and Catholics (right wing). This war killed about 500,000 people.
As pressure grew between the left and right movement, Franco fired that the country would be taken over by communists, he was wrong, instead he was sent to the Canary Islands, where it was believed that he was too far away to start any revolt, again the left wing government was wrong. As pressure grew, the right wing movement started revolting. Franco was in touch constantly with the main land, his hunger for power growing by the second.
Franco went to Morocco, formed an alliance with the garrison army and promptly took them to Spain to invade it.
H ruled Spain with military position, without any disregard as whatever for any of the parties. This move was classified as nothing short of brilliance.

The Munich agreement took place in Munich on the 29th of September 1938, when, Adolf Hitler, Neville Chamberlain, Edouard Daladier and Benito Mussolini, signed the Munich Agreement transferring Sudetenland to Germany. Joseph Stalin and the Soviet Union, Neville Chamberlain and Edourd Daladier agreed that Germany could have Sudetenland, but with one condition, that Hitler couldn’t make any more territorial demands in Europe.
This agreement is very well known in England as it prevented a war with Germany.
